CSM Aaron J. Spahl hails from Byram, New Jersey. He
entered the United States Army in February of 1996 to
attend One Station Unit Training at Ft. Benning, Georgia,
graduating as an 11C, Indirect Fire Infantryman. He remained
at Ft. Benning and attended the Basic Airborne Course and
the Ranger Indoctrination Program. Throughout his 30‐year
military career, CSM Spahl has served in an array of positions
which include Ammunition Bearer, Assistant Gunner, Radio
Telephone Operator, Vehicle Driver, Fire Direction Center
Computer, Section Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Assistant
Operations Sergeant, First Sergeant, Senior Military Science
Instructor, Operations Sergeant Major, and Command Sergeant
Major.

CSM Spahl’s assignments include 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger
Regiment, Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia; 1st Battalion, 501st
Infantry Regiment (Airborne), Joint Base Elmendorf‐Richardson,
Alaska; Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Army ROTC,
Daytona Beach, Florida; 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment,
Ft. Carson, Colorado; 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment,
JBLM, WA; 4th Brigade, US Army Cadet Command, Ft. Bragg,
NC; 3rd Security Force Assistance Brigade, Ft. Hood, TX; HQ,
US Army Europe-Africa, Wiesbaden, Germany; and HQ (Forward)
V Corps, Wiesbaden, Germany. He has deployed overseas in
support of Operation Enduring Freedom four times and twice in
support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

CSM Spahl’s military education includes: Basic Leader Course,

States Army Sergeant’s Major Academy Class 65, Basic Airborne
Course, Ranger Course, Infantry Mortar Leader Course, Jumpmaster

and the Nominative Leader Course.

CSM Spahl’s awards and decorations include the Legion of
Merit (2 OLC), the Bronze Star Medal (4 OLC), the Meritorious
Service Medal (2 OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (4 OLC),
the Army Achievement Medal (1 OLC), the Army Good Conduct
Medal (9th), the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan
Campaign Medal w/ 4 Bronze Stars, the Iraqi Campaign Medal
w/ 3 Bronze Stars, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal,
the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Noncommissioned
Officer Professional Development Ribbon w/numeral 5, the NATO
Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon
w/numeral 7, the Valorous Unit Award (2 OLC), Combat Infantryman’s
Badge, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Ranger Tab, Master Parachutist Badge,

CSM Spahl’s foreign awards include the German Parachutist
Badge, Republic of Korea Parachutist Badge, Australia Parachutist
Badge, Canada Parachutist Badge, and Czech Republic Parachutist
Badge. CSM Spahl’s military accomplishments include Distinguished
Honor Graduate from the Pathfinder Course and selection on the
Commandant’s list at the Infantry Mortar Leader Course and the
Advanced Leader Course. He has also been inducted into the
Order of St. Maurice (Centurion).

CSM Spahl is married to the former Kristen Hites of Missouri
and they have two children.
