The Eastern Flank Deterrence Initiative is a NATO-led effort supported by U.S. Army Europe and Africa to strengthen defense and readiness across NATO’s eastern flank. The initiative focuses on improving coordination between Allies, increasing combat readiness, and integrating new technologies to deter aggression and defend the region.

U.S. Soldiers assigned to V Corps compete in V Corps’ Best Squad Competition at Grafenwöhr, Germany, June 8-11, 2026. Teams representing units from across V Corps will test their tactical proficiency, communication, and overall cohesion as they compete for the title of Best Squad. Winners of this competition will advance to compete at the U.S. Army Europe and Africa Best Squad Competition.

V Corps Best Squad 2026

A historical video highlighting the legacy of V Corps from its activation during World War I to its present-day mission in Europe. The History of U.S. Army V Corps

FORT KNOX Ky. - U.S. Army Soldiers assigned to V Corps and multinational partners conduct simulated tactical operations during Warfighter Exercise 26-03 (WFX 26-03) at Fort Knox, Kentucky and Camp Kosciuszko, Poland from March 12 to March 27, 2026. This exercise tests the corps at every echelon, from strategic planning in the tactical operations center to the individual Soldier in the field. A multinational battalion comprised of troops from the U.S., Italy, Poland and Hungary, face off against the British during a force-on-force training exercise, May 2026 in Finland. From April 27 to May 31, 2026 U.S. and Allied forces will exercise NATO's Eastern Flank Deterrence Initiative, demonstrating NATO's ability to fight and win on the modern battlefield. Nearly 15,000 troops from eleven nations will train across the High North, Baltic region, and Poland, executing rapid maneuvers, air defense, counter-drone operations, and cyber defense to validate NATO's regional defense plans in real time. This series of linked exercises, including Saber Strike, Immediate Response, and Swift Response, turns investment into capability. Soldiers integrate unmanned systems, Al-enabled command and control, and live data networks to move faster, decide faster, and fight more effectively across all domains. Sword 26 demonstrates how U.S. Army Europe and Africa drives transformation at scale while strengthening deterrence.
