FORT KNOX, Ky –
During a formal ceremony at V Corps’ headquarters, U.S. Army 1st Sgt. Marcus Aaron transferred the responsibilities of the Signal Intelligence and Sustainment Company, known as SISCO, to 1st Sgt. Tammy Aherns in a change of responsibility ceremony, Nov. 7.
The change of responsibility ceremony, a time-honored military tradition, serves as an important moment to acknowledge the hard work and sacrifices of both the outgoing and incoming leaders. The ceremony was attended by senior leaders across V Corps, as well as members of SISCO, marking the occasion with a sense of pride and camaraderie.
Aaron assumed responsibility of SISCO in November 2022 and played a crucial role in leading and developing the Soldiers in the unit. He ensured operational readiness while supporting the corps’ mission, by refining the rear command post during command post exercises that culminated with Warfighter 24 earlier this year. Under his leadership, SISCO supported V Corps’ success across the European theater. Aaron’s tenure focused on Soldier development, disciplined leadership and fostering teamwork, all of which enabled the unit to thrive under challenging conditions.
Reflecting on his time in the corps, Aaron said, “To every Soldier and civilian that I have the pleasure of working with, you have been an inspiration to me. I hope that you have gained as much knowledge from me as I have from you during our time in the corps. I strove to be a servant leader to every one of you, and I hope that my leadership inspired you to continue to want to grow professionally and personally. I am truly grateful for all of you.”
Aherns assumed her new role with a wealth of expertise. She has served in leadership positions within V Corps for the last two years, most recently as the intelligence operations non-commissioned officer in-charge. Her leadership and commitment to excellence position her well to lead SISCO as it continues its critical task of supporting V Corps’ mission. She plans to create a climate in the corps where Soldiers at all levels can be proud of themselves and their work. She also wants them to have confidence in themselves and each other.
“I want our Soldiers to know how important their day-to-day mission is. At times it’s difficult to see our impact, but V Corps has an important role to play in the overall security of our country and our NATO Allies. As our world constantly changes, our threat posture continues to ebb and flow. We need to be ready for our worst day, both as individuals and as a team,” Aherns said.
As Aaron transitions to new responsibilities as the brigade administration non-commissioned officer in-charge for the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, and Aherns takes on her new role, SISCO will remain integral to the success of V Corps. The unit will continue supporting both strategic and tactical operations across the corps' footprint.
