CAMPBELL BARRACKS, Heidelberg – Families, friends and fellow Soldiers here welcomed home nearly 100 V Corps Soldiers during a ceremony at Campbell Barracks, Saturday, after the headquarters group completed a year-long deployment in Kabul, Afghanistan.

“We have two little boys and we’re all very excited that he’s coming back today,” said Brandi Wolfgang, while excitedly awaiting her husband’s return.  “I’ve been awake since about 5 a.m., ready to go.  I just couldn’t sit at home any longer.”

Other spouses echoed those sentiments.

“I was excited and nervous,” said Bobbi Miller, whose husband Craig is among those redeploying. “It’s kind of like Christmas.  You’re so excited that they’re coming back, you just can’t wait to experience it.”

After the formation was dismissed and the Soldiers reunited with their loved ones, the talk turned to well-earned vacation plans.

“We’re looking forward to going down to Italy and spending a few weeks on the beach, relaxing and just spending some time together,” said Bobbi Miller’s husband Capt. Craig Miller, who counts this as their second year-long deployment.

“Parts of it (the deployments) are hard. It will eventually be over, you’ll eventually be home, you just have to keep your eye on that fact,” Craig Miller said.

“You just get through it. It’s not easy but you just get through the days,” Bobbi Miller agreed.

The V Corps Soldiers deployed last summer from Heidelberg to fill key positions in the International Security Assistance Force Joint Command (IJC) Headquarters in Kabul, Afghanistan.

They will spend the next few months reintegrating into the Heidelberg community and taking leave. Afterwards, most will rotate to new assignments throughout the Army.
